Entertainment During the
Gold Rush
During the California Gold Rush a miner had many ways of
entertaining himself. They might
go and visit a friend or possibly a lady if one was in town. A very popular thing to do was
gamble. An example of where they
would gamble was at Golden Gulch Gambling Hall. Miners also might go to see a play or go to the opera
house.
Miners bet on a variety of things. They might bet on dogfights (which are illegal now), human fights, horse races, and foot races. Almost all of the betting occurred on Sundays, which was their day off. There was always something to do during the California Gold Rush.
